TaraMarie Perri holds an M.F.A in Dance from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a B.A. in Visual Arts History from College of the Holy Cross, MA. An independent scholar-artist, she is on faculty at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Steps on Broadway, and Dance New Amsterdam in New York City. She teaches ballet, modern, yoga, dance composition, practice-based movement research, business for artists, and coordinates wellness programs for performing arts facilities. TaraMarie has held faculty positions at Joffrey Ballet School and American Dance Festival and has been a guest artist/lecturer at University of Iowa, Vassar College, College of the Holy Cross, Goldsmiths and Queen Mary Universities in London. Her research interests include written and collaborative projects with colleagues in related fields such as visual and performing arts, functional anatomy, yoga and meditation, Ayurveda, applied psychology, and performer wellness practices. She writes regularly for Mind Body Brew and Seeking_Space.
TaraMarie is Founder and Director of Mind Body Dancer®, a community of teachers and students of yoga dedicated to the arts, movement, education, and research. Through teacher training and continuing education courses for teachers, she is training arts and education professionals to teach yoga and the curriculum she developed for performing artists. TaraMarie manages and mentors Mind Body Dancer-licensed teachers working in dance schools, performing arts programs, universities, yoga studios, and gyms in several cities across the United States and abroad. She has been consulted for her yoga expertise in periodicals such as Pointe Magazine and Dance Teacher Magazine. When not in New York City, she travels to guest lecture and connect with Mind Body Dancer clients all over the performing arts world.
TaraMarie began her yoga studies in 1997 and has been teaching in the New York City and Brooklyn yoga communities since 2004 in a number of locations including Namaste New York, Yoga High, Sonic Yoga, East Yoga, Grand Street Yoga Spot, and Lululemon Athletica for their in-store and Bryant Park summer class series, where she taught hundreds of students each week. She was certified through OM Yoga and is a member of Yoga Alliance and Yoga for New York. She completed meditation training at Shambhala Meditation Center of New York and advanced studies in Yoga Anatomy with Leslie Kaminoff at The Breathing Project, NYC. TaraMarie continues studies in functional anatomy and Ayurveda with Rebecca Dietzel and meditation and secular Buddhist studies with Ethan Nichtern of the Interdependence Project, NYC.
In addition to her work in the arts, yoga, and education, TaraMarie danced professionally with ballet and contemporary dance companies. Her choreography and costume designs have been critically acclaimed in The New Yorker and The Village Voice, among other publications.
